the xingqing palace, built in the second year of kaiyuan (714 ad), was rebuilt from longqing fang, where emperor xuanzong of tang lived and administered state affairs. in order to coordinate with the westward relocation of xi'an jiaotong university, xi'an municipal government built xingqing park on the site of the southwest corner of xingqing palace in chang'an city during the tang dynasty, and the park was completed and opened in 1958. in 1979, it was officially renamed as xingqing palace park.
in the following years, xingqing palace park has become a popular public park favoured by the citizens of xi'an. for many residents of xi'an, there are pictures of xingqing palace park in their old photo albums. after the renovation and upgrade in 2021, xingqing palace park returned to the public with a more beautiful environment.
nowadays, you can always capture older people exercising in the morning, children on spring outings, and visitors taking a walk in the park. they walk through the shade of greenery, row the boat in the lake, and play around in front of the chenxiang pavilion.
the profound cultural foundation
the new site of shaanxi tang tricolor pottery art museum is located in nanxun pavilion of the xingqing palace park, which opened to the public in may this year. with a construction area of 3,200 square meters and an exhibition hall area of 2,000 square meters, the museum is based on the xingqing palace, with tang sancai as the leading element, and the tang dynasty court life as the main theme.

the museum takes the heritage of xingqing palace in the tang dynasty as the background, and relies on a large number of fine three-colored wares, porcelains, silverware and other objects in the old site. this way, it vividly depicts the life scenes of the tang dynasty. at the same time, the new museum also showcases the hunting in the tang dynasty, camel caravans on the silk road, and musical instrument performances in celebration entertainment at that time.
as time goes by, xingqing palace has transformed from a "royal palace" to a "public park", endowed with more roles when integrating with the city.
